Cumbrian businesses looking to supply products and services to Pirelli have the chance to meet the company face to face.
Cumbria Business Growth Hub’s Supply Chain Opportunity Club has organised a meet-the-buyer event at Pirelli’s Carlisle tyre factory on the morning of Tuesday April 16th.
Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) can find out how to become an approved supplier, get one-to-one sessions with Pirelli’s buying team and tour the Dalston Road site.
Murat Tuzer, Purchasing Director at Pirelli, said: “Thanks to Cumbria Business Growth Hub, we are taking part in a supplier event where we will meet local businesses to exchange information and possibly identify potential business partners.
“This is a great opportunity to support the local supply chain and encourage businesses to engage with us.”
Pirelli wants to meet engineering and construction companies, and firms able to provide pipe fitters, machinery movers and installers, fabricators, painters and decorators, racking, flooring systems, and heating, ventilation and air conditioning.
The event follows a successful meet-the-buyer session with construction company ENGIE in Penrith on Monday.
ENGIE has secured contracts with the social housing provider Home Group and is building in Penrith, Cleator Moor and Sedbergh, and at two sites in Carlisle.
Operations Manager Alan Holt said the company was looking to engage local sub-contractors.
He added: “We need to understand what they can deliver for us, their capabilities and their track record. This event was about starting a dialogue between them and us.”
More than 60 businesses attended including Ashcroft, a construction, demolition and plant company based in Flimby.
Mike James, Future Projects and Marketing Manager, said: “We’ve worked with Home Group before and we came to find out more about ENGIE and ensure we’re on their tender list.
“We’ve spoken to their people and told them what we can do. They are keen to send us information. It’s all very positive.”
The Supply Chain Opportunity Club was launched last year to help Cumbrian SMEs win work with larger organisations.
It has already run meet-the-buyer events with supermarket Booths and TSP Engineering in Workington.
Eva Foran, Supply Chain Development Manager at Cumbria Chamber of Commerce, the lead partner in the Growth Hub, said: “Not only can we provide introductions at events like these, we can help SMEs meet the necessary procurement criteria and attain any accreditations if needed.
“All this support is free to eligible businesses.”
