Top business experts will be coming to Kendal to raise awareness about what businesses can do to protect themselves from cyber-attacks.
The free event aims to educate businesses in Cumbria about practical steps to protect themselves from the increasing sophistication of cyber criminals.
Jointly hosted by Cumbria’s Police and Crime Commissioner, Cumbria Constabulary, the county’s Chamber of Commerce and Get Safe Online, the event will take place on 29th March 9.45-12 at The Castle Green Hotel in Kendal.
Cumbria’s Police and Crime Commissioner, Peter McCall said: “We are bringing leading experts to support local organisations, as we know how much they and their customers rely on the internet. This can be from doing business banking, to running their entire commercial operation online.
“This free event is open to all, and I would particularly urge the business community to consider if they are protected sufficiently. It is too late when a crime has been committed, but by taking a few simple steps highlighted by our team of industry leaders you can help to safeguard your own business for the future.”
Detective Inspector, Crime Command Ian Harwood comments: “Cybercrime is a growing global trend which affects us all right here in Cumbria. Our constabulary is making significant investment in resources and equipment to face this challenge.
“Our strategy will focus on:
- Prepare – prepare ourselves to effectively deal with cybercrime or a significant cyber-attack
- Prevent – prevent people from entering the world of cyber criminality by providing early intervention and diversion
- Protect – protect our communities by providing good, up to date and simple advice to reduce the risk of becoming a victim
- Pursue – those who commit cybercrime and bring them to justice.

A recent survey by the British Chambers of Commerce found that one-in-five businesses were affected by cybercrime in the previous year. That’s why we’re keen to promote this event, to ensure that Cumbrian businesses have the tools and techniques they need to protect themselves and protect their customers.”
