The Yan at Broadrayne, a contemporary bistro with beds just outside Grasmere will be officially open and taking bookings from Monday 1st July.
A 17th Century former farm, The Yan will have seven plush en-suite bedrooms, a rustic bistro, an open-plan lounge area and a three tier ‘sun-trap’ terrace. Family-run, The Yan will epitomise Cumbrian hospitality, offering guests a wholesome welcome, hearty food and stylish interiors, making the new bistro with beds perfect for both locals and visitors alike.
The bistro at The Yan will be open to external customers as well as The Yan’s guests but the team hope that the new eatery will become a firm favourite to the local audience. The casual yet classy eatery serves seasonal, hearty dishes inspired by the farm’s rich history.
Using locally sourced and sustainable ingredients as the focal point the menu will contain rustic Cumbrian classics and nostalgic British favourites. Some dishes will feature produce that comes from just beyond the doorstep of the bistro with beds; the menu at The Yan will incorporate ingredients from Broadrayne Farm (the farm where The Yan sits) such as eggs and Broadrayne lamb, making the menu truly fresh and unique.
Each dish will incorporate contemporary twists, with sharing plates used to add to the social feel of the bistro. The bistro will serve breakfast until 11am, a selection of cakes and coffee will be available in the afternoon and the kitchen will then open again at 3pm until 9pm.
Breakfast dishes include Courgette, tomato & herb frittata with hash browns, tomato salsa & hollandaise sauce (£8.95) and Smoked salmon & creamy scrambled eggs on thick cut toast with a chive crème fraiche (£9.95), whilst the all day menu offers customers dishes like a traditional Shepherd’s Pie made with slowly braised lamb and cheesy mash potato, cured ham, parsley garden peas (£14.95) and sharing plates of Thyme & garlic beef brisket, baked potatoes filled with garlic cheese, corn on the cob, vegetable coleslaw with a spicy Cajun sauce and chargrilled flatbread (£29.95).
The Yan is the latest addition to the Broadrayne Farm site, which is already home to Grasmere Glamping and Broadrayne Farm Holiday Cottages. Previously an independent hostel, the The Yan has seen an investment of over half a million pounds from Dave and Sally Keighley, who bought Broadrayne Farm in 2012.
The Yan is to be run by the couple’s daughter, Jess Manley and her husband Will Manley, with Jess as Director of Operations and Will as Executive Chef.
The couple moved to the area in May 2018 and both bring comprehensive international hospitality experience, with positions across Australia, Asia and Europe showcasing high standards of service and exceptional offerings. Since moving to The Lakes, Will has worked as a sous chef at the well-known Homeground Café in Windermere and at Michelin-starred restaurant, Forest Side whilst Jess has been working hard on both the design and details of The Yan from stylish features to special guest comforts, along with the day to day running of the cottage and glamping business.
Dave, Sally Jess and Will commented on the opening of The Yan and said: “We are so excited that The Yan is opening next week. It has definitely been a labour of love but the whole team is looking forward to welcoming guests to our beautiful spot and showcasing the best of what The Lakes has to offer! We hope the local audience will join us and try the new bistro whilst taking in the stunning views and enjoying our beautiful outdoor terrace. I’m certain that with our hearty food and welcoming atmosphere it will become a local favourite!”
The Yan will be open from 1st July 2019 with room rates starting from £90 per night for a Standard Room and £110 for a Deluxe Room. For more information please visit www.theyan.co.uk
