Budding entrepreneurs, makers, crafters or those who simply want to try out a new venture are being urged to take the plunge with a temporary market stall this Christmas in Barrow.
Barrow’s Market Hall is set to open six days a week during the run-up to December 25 to ensure shoppers can support local businesses.
The market, in Duke Street, is usually open on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays.
But a surge in demand during the festive season means it will open from Monday to Saturday through December until Christmas – as well as on Sunday, December 18.
Now, for the first time ever, special six-week market licences will also be available to allow people to try out a stall in Barrow’s Market Hall.
Ann Thomson, the leader of Barrow Borough Council, said: “We know the market has very loyal customers and more and more people are visiting for the first time in search of excellent value and the ability to shop local.
“Taking a stall temporarily is a wonderful opportunity for people who perhaps already run a home or online-based business or for someone who has always wanted to try their hand at something new.
“Visiting the market is also a wonderful way to support local businesses and we hope more people take advantage of the extended opening days.”
Barrow Market is one of the largest indoor markets in Cumbria. It celebrated its 50th year in its current location in 2021.
During December, it will be open:
- Monday: 9am-5pm
- Tuesday: 9am-4pm
- Wednesday: 9am-5pm
- Thursday: 9am-4pm
- Friday: 9am-5pm
- Saturday: 9am-5pm
- Sunday, December 18: 10am-4pm
