The ability to inspire individuals is a critical factor for business success.
The Cockermouth-based Centre for Leadership Performance (CforLP) is a not-for-profit organisation with a mission to ‘Develop Cumbria’s Leaders for Today and Tomorrow.’
The organisation recently won the Inspiring People award at the 2023 British Energy Coast Business Cluster Awards.
The award recognises CforLP’s commitment to staff and the huge impact the organisation has on businesses across Cumbria, by supporting them to develop and inspire their directors, managers and other employees to raise their own performance, set their sights on achievement and personal and professional growth, and demonstrate everyday leadership.
CforLP executive director Sarah Glass said: “Inspiring people is not just a feel-good initiative; it’s a strategic imperative for businesses aiming for long-term success.
“By cultivating a collaborative culture, empowering teams, engaging with stakeholders, investing in people, and measuring impact, organisations can create an environment that fosters leadership, innovation, and collective success.”
CforLP offers comprehensive guidance and support for businesses aspiring to inspire and benefit their teams and the communities they serve.
Create an inclusive culture
Creating an inclusive culture begins during recruitment with ensuring values are aligned and embracing flexible working models. By creating an environment that celebrates diversity of thought and skills, businesses can leverage a wealth of perspectives to overcome challenges and drive innovation.
Empower and trust your team
Building trust involves avoiding micro-management and instead empowering your team to take ownership of their work. Recognising and nurturing talent within your organisation is essential, providing training and support for continuous growth. Transparent communication about budgets and forecasts ensures that team members understand the bigger picture and feel valued.
Engage with stakeholders
Collaboration with a network of partners is vital to diversify thought and celebrate achievements. Sharing learning and insights with the broader community fosters a culture of transparency and collaboration. CforLP collaborates with a network of local associates, recognising the value of diverse partnerships and contributing to the lifelong leadership community, from primary to retirement, which promotes working together, sharing best practices, learning, and inspiring one another.
Invest in people
Facilitate regular team meetings, skills development sessions, and networking opportunities. Provide mentoring and coaching opportunities for personal and professional growth, fostering a culture of continuous learning. CforLP supports its team with continuous professional development (CPD) training, mentorship, and networking opportunities. Businesses can provide employees with opportunities for skill enhancement, mentorship programmes, and networking events to foster personal and professional growth.
Measure impact
Establish clear performance metrics and conduct regular reviews. Develop social impact measures linked to core values, enabling the organisation to adapt and improve continually based on feedback and results. CforLP uses regular performance reviews and social impact measures to assess progress and gauge the influence on stakeholders. By measuring elements such as vision, self-belief, efficacy, collaboration, and resilience, businesses can adapt and improve their strategies over time.
