The Traybakes team

[T]raybakes Ltd has been asked to supply their handmade traybake cakes to the Wimbledon Championships for the second year running.

After selling out of their cakes on the first day of the 2016 tournament, the Traybakes team had to spring into action to fulfil a last-minute order to restock the shelves for the remainder of the event. Fortunately, they managed to make and supply an additional 17,000 bars in time.

For this year’s tournament, Wimbledon have increased their initial order from 23,000 to approximately 30,000 Traybakes. Having learned from their experience last year, the Traybakes team are now prepared and have built up their reserves in anticipation of a further order from Wimbledon once the tournament has begun.

Justine Carruthers said: “We are delighted to be supplying Wimbledon for a second year in succession, and hope our handmade bars prove to be as popular this year.

“Our association with such a prestigious event is certainly great for Traybakes, great for Cumbria, and we’re always proud to wave the north of England flag.”

Traybakes is a Penrith based business that makes a wide range of handmade traybake cakes in small batches using traditional recipes.

Traybakes sells to a variety of customers, from wholesalers to small independent retailers. Their cakes are available as Service Trays, Sharing Slices and Individually Wrapped Bars, meaning that the company can be flexible in meeting their customers’ needs.

Justine Carruthers founded Traybakes on a budget in the 1990s when she was just 19 years of age. The business may have started out in a converted dairy on a farm, but it has gone from strength to strength, and is now located in the Traybakes Food Technology Centre, a purpose-built food preparation site that was opened by Her Majesty the Queen.
