A Lake District Spar has won a prestigious award.
The store, on Rayrigg Road in Bowness, was named best North of England forecourt site, selling up to four million litres annually, at the Forecourt Trader Awards 2025.
The Shell branded four-pump forecourt brought back into use the former Rayrigg Motors site when it opened in July 2024.
Judges praised the site’s achievement in catering for both the booming tourist trade visiting the Lake District as well as the people who live nearby.
Fiona Drummond, company stores director at James Hall & Co. Ltd said “When we launched Spar Bowness last year, we believed we had a winning offer.
“I am so proud that the sharpest eyes in the sector agree with us when judging our site against tough competition elsewhere in the North.
“Our core customers who live in and around Bowness told us that the customer parking was a boon, and our comprehensive store offer that caters for both local people and the tourist trade, coupled with our affordable fuel prices, have made our store a destination.
“I am thrilled, and we are working hard to maintain the standards that we have established in our first year of trade.”
