Senior appointments at leading Cumbrian firms

Commercial relationship managers appointed at Cumberland Building Society

The Cumberland Building Society has announced two new appointments for its commercial team. 

Andy Gibson and Georgie McRoberts have been recruited as commercial relationship managers for the society. 

Andy has more than 30 years’ experience in banking. 

He will look after the society’s customer base in the South West of England and hospitality businesses in the North West. 

Andy said: “I’m really pleased to be joining The Cumberland in such an exciting period of growth. I was initially attracted to the role after seeing the passion displayed by the senior team and I’m pleased to see that passion is shared amongst everybody within the business.   

Georgie will look after a portfolio of existing connections and dealing with brokers and intermediaries to secure new business deals across Cumbria, South West Scotland, and North East England. She also has more than 25 years’ experience in financial services, having previously worked at the Royal Bank of Scotland and Clydesdale Bank.

Georgie said: “I’m pleased to have started my role here at The Cumberland which puts people at the heart of what it does. There will undoubtedly be challenges ahead as we face further economic uncertainty but I’m looking forward to supporting our customers in any way that we can.”  

Scott McKerracher, head of commercial lending, said: “As our customers continue to come under financial strain due to the ongoing financial crisis, we are pleased to be expanding our team in order to best support them and other potential new customers.” 

Two appointments at Cartmell Shepherd Solicitors

Cartmell Shepherd Solicitors has welcomed two new members to its team. 

Rob Winder has joined as a senior associate at the Carlisle office and Sarah Griffiths as a solicitor at the Penrith office. 

Rob started his legal career more than two decades ago with the firm. He has been named in the Legal 500 rankings for the past five years and will specialise in dispute resolution. 

Rob said: “I have had more than 15 years working on some very interesting and complex cases so I have gained a mountain of experience in a wide variety of areas which I hope I can share with the team, especially the younger members.”

Sarah qualified in 1995 and trained with international law firm Trowers and Hamlins in London. 

She has worked as a licensing officer within the legal department at Eden District Council, before spending four years working in the private client department for Arnison Heelis Solicitors in Penrith. 

Sarah said: “I came to this very office as an undergraduate to do work experience and I’m looking forward to continuing to develop my skills.” 

Peter Stafford, managing director of Cartmell Shepherd Solicitors, said: “Both Rob and Sarah know the industry inside and out, and are excellent lawyers with a wealth of experience between them.” 

New operations manager at Wragg Mark-Bell

Rebecca Ferris has been appointed as the new operations manager for Carlisle-based law firm Wragg Mark-Bell. 

Rebecca has been appointed after nine years working for another local solicitors and has extensive management experience working for an estate agent. 

Rebecca’s primary focus will be on supporting the staff and senior management team, helping ensure good internal communication and professional development opportunities. 

She said: “I want to focus on the staff themselves and make Wragg Mark-Bell somewhere people want to spend their careers.” 

Managing director Nick Kennon said: “Rebecca comes with vast experience and is already having an impact within weeks of joining. 

“I look forward to how she can help us continue to develop and thrive.”
