A Cumbrian firm celebrated Girls in Engineering Day by welcoming over 20 female students from schools across West Cumbria to its base.
Youngsters from Energy Coast UTC, St Benedict’s, and Workington Academy visited McMenon Engineering in Workington.
They heard from McMenon team members representing key business areas such as sales, planning, engineering, and quality, each sharing insights into their roles and career paths.
The group also heard from Hannah Thompson, operations director at Assystem and non-executive director at Eadon Consulting, who shared her inspiring personal journey in engineering and leadership.
Students also took part in hands-on activities within McMenon’s production, machining, and welding departments.
Shiby Bernard, chief operations officer at McMenon, said; ‘These events are incredibly important to us as an organisation.
“We want to show young women in our community the wide range of opportunities available right here on their doorstep, not just in engineering, but in all areas that support our business.
“We are passionate about encouraging and empowering the future workforce, particularly women in engineering. Our hope is that this event inspires attendees to follow their passion, challenge stereotypes, and break barriers within the industry.”
