Dr Caroline Rouncefield, head of the university’s department of business, law, policing and social sciences.

[T]he University of Cumbria’s business, accounting and finance programme has received full accreditation by the body that oversees professional qualifications in this area, the Association of Chartered and Certified Accountants (ACCA).

The award is in recognition of the high academic and professional standards offered by the university on courses that are vital to gaining recognised skills increasingly sought by employers.

The Business School itself has been recognised for its work through The Small Business Charter Award in recognition of its active support in supporting start-up businesses in Cumbria and north Lancashire.

“Gaining ACCA accreditation is brilliant news and it mean that current and future students choosing to join us can be assured of gaining a qualification that will give them the best possible start to a career in Accounting,” Dr Raye Ng, principal lecturer in business and business partnerships, said.

“The university is working hard to offer not only qualifications that count but also create opportunities for students to experience the world of work during their course through our links with employers across the region and beyond,” Dr Caroline Rouncefield, head of the university’s department of business, law, policing and social sciences said. ”One of the unique feature of the Business School is the commitment to global employability of our students”.

The Business School also offers a wide range of flexible courses that are aligned to other professional bodies some with an optional sandwich route allowing students to work for a year in the UK or abroad as part of their studies.

Themes such as employability, innovation, entrepreneurship and creativity are included in courses to ensure students have a head start to begin their profession or to further their current career.

“We are actively engaged with the local community and our expert lecturers will ensure you leave as a ‘work-ready’ graduate, providing you with a competitive edge in the highly dynamic world of business,” Dr Ng said.
