Sellafield Ltd has been named one of The Sunday Times Top 100 Apprenticeship Employers 2026, ranking number 49.

The national ranking celebrates organisations that demonstrate excellence in employing and developing apprentices.

It recognises employers who create high-quality opportunities, support diverse talent and help apprentices successfully complete their training.

For Sellafield Ltd, the recognition highlights its long-standing investment in skills, education and opportunity across West Cumbria.

With more than 50 years of apprenticeship training, Sellafield has supported over 2,500 apprentices in the last decade alone.

The organisation currently has over 750 apprentices across roles including engineering, science, digital, project management, and operational roles.

Sellafield’s apprenticeship programme is part of a wider commitment to investing in future talent and strengthening communities.

Each year, the organisation recruits early career professionals and works closely with local education partners to create clear pathways into skilled, long-term employment.

Michelle Lambon-Wilks, head of education, skills and social mobility at Sellafield Ltd, said: “We are incredibly proud to be recognised as one of the UK’s Top 100 Apprenticeship Employers.

“This achievement reflects our commitment to creating high-quality opportunities for local people, helping them develop rewarding careers while building the skills our region and the wider nuclear sector need for the future.

“Apprenticeships play a vital role in supporting social mobility, strengthening our communities and ensuring talented individuals can access exciting career opportunities close to home.

“This recognition belongs to our apprentices, their families, our education partners and the many colleagues who support them every step of the way.”

The announcement was made as part of a national launch event streamed to thousands of schools, colleges and employers across the UK.

As part of the programme, Sellafield apprentice Tegan Shaw, a health physics apprentice, was featured in a national interview showcasing the real impact of apprenticeships.

Tegan Shaw said: “My apprenticeship at Sellafield has given me the chance to be part of something that really matters, while building skills and experience for my future.

“You’re learning whilst you’re contributing to real projects and making a difference.

“I’d absolutely encourage anyone considering their next step to think about an apprenticeship.”

Cumbrian accountancy firm Armstrong Watson was also named in the top 100 list.
