A Cumbrian education leader has been announced as the first panellist for a major county business conference later this year.
Steve Randles, head of delivery at Brathay Trust, will appear at Conference Cumbria 2026 on October 1, bringing more than 25 years of leadership and education experience to this year’s event.
Taking place at the Pencil Factory in Keswick, Conference Cumbria will bring together hundreds of business leaders, entrepreneurs and decision-makers from across the county for a day focused on bold thinking, fresh perspectives and meaningful connections.
It is organised by Cumbria Chamber of Commerce.
Steve has spent over 25 years working across the education sector in roles including practitioner, teacher, head of centre and senior leadership.
During his career, he has championed environments where people feel empowered to take smart risks, challenge the status quo and speak openly.
As a member of the Conference Cumbria expert panel, Steve will share his perspectives on leadership, resilience and the importance of creating cultures where innovation and courageous thinking can thrive.
Conference Cumbria 2026’s theme is Be Bold. Be Courageous.
Steve said he believed the best outcomes rarely came from playing it safe, but instead emerged through diverse perspectives, honest conversations and a willingness to try something new.
His focus on helping people and organisations move forward with intent, clarity and confidence aligned closely with the conference’s mission to inspire bold action across Cumbria’s business community, the chamber said.
Lesley Robinson, head of business growth & support at Cumbria Chamber of Commerce, said: “We’re delighted to welcome Steve to our expert panel at Conference Cumbria 2026.
“His extensive leadership experience and commitment to empowering others make him a fantastic addition to the programme.
“Steve’s belief that courage is often found in supporting others to believe in their ideas and persevere through challenges reflects exactly what this year’s ‘Be Bold. Be Courageous.’ theme is all about. We’re looking forward to the insight and perspective he’ll bring to the discussion.”
Steve said: “I’m delighted to be part of Conference Cumbria 2026 and to join a panel focused on what it really means to lead with courage.
“The most meaningful progress happens when we’re willing to step outside our comfort zones, listen to different perspectives and create environments where people feel safe to challenge, contribute and grow.
“I’m looking forward to sharing insights and learning from others who are equally committed to building confident, resilient organisations across Cumbria.”
This year’s event will feature headline speaker Sir Clive Woodward alongside a growing programme of inspiring speakers, panel discussions and networking opportunities designed to support business growth, leadership and innovation.
Recent speaker announcements have also included Lou Kneath and Sara Murray, further strengthening what promises to be one of the county’s most inspiring business events.
A limited number of sponsorship opportunities and tickets remain available for businesses looking to align themselves with one of the region’s most prominent business events.
