Six Cumbrian firms were crowned winners at the North West Family Business Awards earlier this month.

Organised by The Family Business Community, the awards ceremony was held at Bolton Football Stadium to celebrate the success and accomplishments of family-owned businesses throughout the region.

Cumbrian winners:

  • Construction, Property and Engineering: Cubby Construction
  • Retailers and E-Tailers: Charnley’s Home and Garden
  • Food and Drink Producers: Lovingly Artisan
  • Emerging Family Business: Eden Yard
  • Green Award – Large: Story Decorating Group
  • Green Award – Small: The Yan

Managing director of Carlisle-based Cubby Construction, Tommy Cubby, said: “This recognition is testament to the dedication and commitment of our entire team, as well as the enduring values that have guided our family business for generations.

“We are immensely proud to be part of the vibrant community of family-owned businesses in the North West, and we remain committed to making vision a reality constructing great projects delivering excellence for years to come.”

The awards were presented by food writer, broadcaster Nigel Barden, with co-founders of the Family Business Community, Dave Clarkson and Sue Howorth.

Sue said: “We always want to create an unforgettable experience for all attendees, and bringing the awards to Bolton added an extra layer of magic to the occasion.

“The turnout of family businesses and those who support the sector was incredible.

“We’re so grateful for everyone who came out to support the awards and recognise the hard work and dedication of our North West family businesses. It was truly an unforgettable night for everyone in the room.”

Catherine Connor, co-owner of Lovingly Artisan Bakery, said: “What an incredible year we’re having. We’ve been fortunate to win several high-profile awards so far this year, including Food & Drink Producer of the Year at the Northwest Family Business Awards, Retailer of the Year, Baker of the Year and Northwest Regional Champion all in the Farm Shop & Deli Retailer Awards 2024, as well as collecting the award for Britain’s Best Artisan Bakery in the Baker’s Dozen Awards for the second consecutive year.

“We can’t get over it, all of these are a massive pat on the back for the bakery teams at Altrincham and Kendal, and demonstrate that we’re ensuring that we deliver the best possible products to our customers across the North West.”
