[U]sing the working example of Buckabank Farm, Dalston, near Carlisle, H&H Land and Property are to hold a practical on-farm conference to help farmers ‘future proof’ their businesses.
This one day farm focus, will explore how the unique property and business attributes of an individual farm can be utilised to create a more resilient business. Through a series of seminars and break-out sessions, experts from within their various fields will discuss in detail some of the most important issues facing the farming industry at the current time.
Very kindly hosted by SJ and RR Brough, who operate one of Cumbria’s most progressive dairy farming enterprises, the conference will take place from 10.00 am – 3.00 pm on Tuesday 4th July.
Aimed at all farmers and those serving and advising the industry, and organised by H&H Land and Property, this business event will consider how the Brough family have developed the traditional aspects of their farming enterprise and how the lessons learned can impact on others as they look to develop their own businesses. The conference will also appraise the wider opportunities that land and property can present to those considering the development of their own on-farm business interests.
On announcing details of their Sustainable Farm Business Conference H&H Land and Property’s farm business management consultant, Nick Prince, said: “Needless to say, we are going through interesting and challenging times for the typical UK farm business. Even without Brexit and the Election, on-going concerns such as an ageing farmer profile, the flexibility to meet market demands, fluctuating commodity prices, high levels of indebtedness and health and welfare issues can all have a significant impact on business resilience.
“Businesses need to consider these issues, and by hosting this conference in association with a number of partners, we are providing an industry platform for open discussion and knowledge transfer.”
Throughout the day there will be a series of seminars and debates and, although still to be finalised, the topics being covered will include the financial realities of farming today, dairy and lamb markets, animal health issues, making the most of planning and development opportunities, environmental and conservation opportunities, business structure and succession planning, robotic milking, alternative business development and funding business development.
