[O]n the back of its recent VisitEngland Gold award, AA Rosette and Four AA Silver Star success, the Trout Hotel in Cockermouth, is in the running to pick up another major prize later this month – as the Crown Street hotel has made the shortlist for Large Hotel of the Year at this year’s Cumbria Tourism Awards.

The Large Hotel of the Year award, sponsored by local accountants Armstrong Watson, focusses on Cumbrian hotels with over 35 bedrooms, with judges looking for examples of impeccable standards of both accommodation and service.

The four star riverside hotel, will be pitted against the likes of The Daffodil in Grasmere, The Swan at Newby Bridge and Kendal’s Castle Green Hotel, to try and claim the top spot.

Alongside its recent award successes, the Trout Hotel was the only Cumbrian business to be featured in The Caterer Magazine’s The Top 30 Best Places to Work in Hospitality 2017 – placing 16th in the nationwide competition.

Sue Eccles, Managing Director of the Trout Hotel, said: “It is an honour to be selected among some of the best hotels in Cumbria. It has been a fantastic year so far in terms of awards and we are all looking forward to the ceremony next month.”

The Cumbria Tourism awards are a celebration of the finest tourism businesses in the county. The award ceremony is due to take place on 21 June at Cartmel Racecourse with, winners from the awards going on to represent the county at the VisitEngland Awards for Excellence next year.

Nestled next door to the birthplace of internationally renowned poet William Wordsworth, Cockermouth’s premier hotel, the Trout Hotel, is renowned for its chic decor, picturesque riverside location and impeccable standards of service. It prides itself on offering guests a warm Cumbrian welcome and providing exceptional locally sourced food, beers and spirits.
