A local app designed to help people to find goods and services in Furness has welcomed the support of local MP, Simon Fell.

INFurness is an app based directory which can be found on Apple’s App Store and Google’s Play Store with more than 1,900 listings covering more than 300 categories of business throughout Barrow, Dalton, Ulverston, Askam, Ireleth, Kirkby, Broughton, Newby Bridge, Grange over Sands and throughout the Furness Peninsula.

The app started out as a concept twenty eight years ago and it has evolved from a website called Visit Furness. This inspired local business man, Nick Emerson, to go on to create and develop the app which many local people now use to find what they need in Furness.

Mr Emerson recently met with local MP for Barrow and Furness, Simon Fell, to present the app and discuss the opportunities and challenges which Furness faces as it recovers from the pandemic and other pre-existing commercial issues.

Commenting from his constituency office in Barrow, Mr Fell said: “I’ve had this app since it first launched and I can honestly say that it’s fantastic. What Nick has created is a modern day Yellow Pages with the added benefit of invaluable local knowledge.”

Praising the app’s ability to support local business and the local economy, Mr Fell went on to say:

“Many of our local businesses have had a hard time during lockdown and I very much hope that Furness folk will step up and back them now that we can get out and shopping again. INFurness will help people do just that.”

Thanking Mr Fell for his support, Mr Emerson said: “It’s great to have Simon’s support. Simon sees why supporting local businesses is so important and wants them to succeed. I hope this app plays a small part in contributing towards that goal.”
