[T]oday Invest in Eden launched a funded training for business programme for businesses in Kirkby Stephen.

The project is designed to upskill the workforce and develop skills to support business growth in the area. The project is being managed by Eden District Council as part of Invest in Eden. Training will be delivered by a partnership of Cumbrian skills and business support providers and will offer funded and part funded training opportunities, focusing on workforce development for small and medium sized businesses in the Upper Eden area.

The first training session was Emergency First Aid provided by SHN Training Services, Kirkby Stephen.

Eden District Council Business Marketing Officer Paul Walker said: “We recognise the importance of growing the local economy, promoting prosperity, creating higher paid jobs and opportunities for young people. This project is designed to identify and support training requirements to help businesses prosper and grow. We are working with partners from across Cumbria to ensure that businesses have access to the highest quality training which is tailored to their business needs.”

Other courses include Social Media for Business, Food Hygiene and Customer Service.

Chair of the Upper Eden Community Interest Company Alex Birtles said: “To be able to provide tailored training locally is a great opportunity for businesses in the area. For many small businesses taking time out of the working week can be difficult. We would like to thank our colleagues at Eden District Council who have worked hard to make sure that the courses are delivered locally, and are as accessible as possible to the business community.”

A number of courses will be funded by The Edge. The Edge is a European Social Fund Project co-financed by the Skills Funding Agency as part of the Employees Support in Skills Project commissioned by Cumbria Local Enterprise Partnership.

Courses that are not eligible for this funding will be supported with a 50% contribution towards course fees from Eden District Council.

Invest in Eden is a project led by Eden District Council as part of their strategy to grow the economy of Eden and help existing businesses and attract inward investment.

The Edge is a European Social Fund Project co-financed by the Skills Funding Agency as part of the Employees Support in Skills Project commissioned by Cumbria Local Enterprise Partnership. Led by accountable body Carlisle College and delivered by a partnership of highly skilled and experienced providers of training and business support, we offer funded training solutions and support to recruit apprentices to enable Cumbria to have one of the fastest growing economies in the Country.
