The past few months have been a worrying time for businesses but one Kendal firm has been so busy, it has expanded for the fifth time since opening 18 months ago.

Andrew Porter Ltd’s Self Store – a purpose built facility at Kendal Business Park – has opened another 27 storage units to keep up with rising customer demand.  The new units range in size from 25 sq ft to 150 sq ft and 11 of them have already been occupied by customers within a week of becoming available.

This latest expansion takes the total number of indoor and outdoor units at the self storage centre to 138. And the growing popularity of self storage means managers at Andrew Porter are already planning a further expansion in the near future with the addition of at least 20 new outdoor units with drive-up access.

Self Store first opened in Kendal in December 2018, initially with just 27 indoor and outdoor storage units, which sold out within a month of the facility’s launch. The site is protected by state-of-the-art alarm systems and CCTV and each unit has its own key fob entry.

Customers can currently take advantage of half-price storage for the first four weeks with a free collection service so they don’t need to worry about getting their items to the unit themselves.

Manager Stephen Gregson has been overseeing the latest expansion.

He said: “There is a clear demand for self storage facilities in the Kendal area and our units have been filling up quickly ever since we opened. It has been fantastic to be able to welcome new customers and meet their needs.

“There are so many different reasons people come to us for self-storage – some are business owners looking for somewhere to store stock or equipment, while others may be in the middle of moving house. We have also found many of our customers are people looking to create more space in their own homes, something which has been especially important during the restrictions of the past few months.”

Andrew Porter Ltd also provides professional removal services and took over local firm Richards of Kendal 20 years ago.
