Talkin Adventures Adapt to New Challenges

Outdoor activities at Talkin Tarn in Brampton are set to continue over the winter months, giving the people of Carlisle and North Cumbria something fun to do during the coronavirus restrictions.

Talkin Adventures, who are based at the Country Park, are building on their successes from the summer to provide Archery sessions and a Campfire Experience for families and social bubbles. These activities are limited to groups of 5 with an instructor and must be pre-booked.

Darren Morgan, Company Director, said: “It’s been a challenging time for local people, including ourselves. We’re pleased to be able to operate at all and we’ve worked really hard to respect the rules and help visitors to enjoy our activities as safely as possible.”

Cumbria’s key tourism industry has been hit hard by measures to control the virus. Talkin Adventures, part of Independent Adventure Ltd., would normally have enjoyed a busy season, running boat hire and working with school groups, hen and stag parties, family celebrations and business team building events. After being closed for the first lock-down, they were forced to scale back their usual summer offering to private, small group sessions in a limited number of activities with their instructors. Boat hire remained closed for the season.

The government’s ‘bubble’ system allowed some school and youth groups to experience a limited number of adventure activities, and Brampton Area Action Group arranged a number of successful holiday clubs for the children of local families.

Darren added: “We’re grateful and very proud to be able to help local young people to experience the outdoors as they have missed out on so much this past year. Being outdoors, in nature, and away from the pressures of day to day life is so important for mental health.”

With the winter being a traditional quiet period for the outdoor activities industry, Talkin Adventures are staying open for as long as possible and are already planning for next year, whatever it may bring.
