Two Cumbrian MPs are part of a drive to ensure that local firms in north Cumbria make the most of free government support to help them take advantage of export opportunities and to tap into demand for British products overseas.

John Stevenson, MP for Carlisle, and Mark Jenkinson, MP for Workington, are working with the Department for International Trade (DIT) as part of the Parliamentary Export Programme, to help local businesses access the support they need to boost their exporting potential.

There are several online events planned for firms across the North West to find out more.

Mr Stevenson said: “I want to help local businesses survive and then recover from the pandemic.

“This is one of my top priorities. That’s why I’m delighted to be hosting events that can save local jobs and give businesses in my constituency access to information, advice and finance to sell internationally.”

Mr Jenkinson added:  “The event that we are organising is free and all businesses in North Cumbria have to do to attend is to register on the link below.

Experts and experienced exporters will be online to provide free advice including on government supported working capital and the practicalities of post-Brexit trade.

Whether your business is new to exporting, has exported in the past or is a current exporter, the event will offer support and the tools you need to begin or continue your exporting journey.”

Mr Stevenson and Mr Jenkinson MP are founding members of the Parliamentary Export Programme where selected cross-party MPs organise and chair virtual meetings with experts from business and government.
