[T]ickets are now available for an event which offers the chance for businesses and academia to come together to discuss potential research collaborations.
The Cumbria Research & Innovation 2017 conference (CRI 2017) is an annual celebration of the University of Cumbria’s research and innovation activity and aims to showcase the work on campus that’s increasingly finding a use in Cumbria, Lancashire and beyond.
In a competitive world, being able to make the most of a university that’s rooted in the region is something more and more organisations are keen to consider.
Cumbrian motor sport team M-Sport, Carlisle United and the University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS Foundation Trust are among organisations who have recently made use of the research capability of the University of Cumbria.
Reflecting the breadth of activity at the University, the subjects to be discussed will range across natural resources and conservation, business and economics, education and health. Prof Frank Peck, research director of the Centre for Regional Economic Development (CRED) at the University of Cumbria, is currently developing research on what Brexit will mean for Cumbria.
“I’ll be looking at the implications for the north west, post-Brexit,” Prof Peck said. “Building on our recent conference ‘Brexit and the Border,’ it’s not all bad news and there are some potential benefits from leaving the EU. From the rural economy to the nuclear industry, this part of the UK will see many changes and the university is well positioned to help research and signal where the opportunities and threats lie.”
The event, which takes place on Friday 7th July 2017 at the Alexandra Building at the university’s Lancaster campus, will include:
- A panel of speakers discussing the possibilities of external collaboration and the benefits such work can bring
- A ‘marketplace’ showcasing university departments, research centres, services and existing external partners
- Research, knowledge exchange and innovation discussions
- Short ‘lightning talk’ sessions
- PhD students’ research
- Academic posters
The conference will also offer an excellent opportunity for networking and engaging in discussion in a range of subjects.
