[T]he family owned Holker Group of companies based on the Holker Estate in South Cumbria has announced the appointment of a new Managing Director for their Racing and Leisure division.

Stephen Cooper took up his new role on 8th January after relocating from Chester with his family, to live on the Estate.

Announcing the appointment, Allen Gibb, Chief Executive of the Holker Group commented “We are absolutely delighted to welcome someone of Steve’s calibre and experience to the Holker Group and Cartmel Steeplechases. We look forward to further developing the visitor experience and event calendar at our venues whilst preserving the deep heritage that makes Holker Hall, Cartmel racing and our caravan parks so special for our many valued customers, friends and residents each year.”

Prior to joining the Holker Group, Mr Cooper spent six years at Manchester United Football Club, initially heading up their in-house catering operations and latterly as Head of Service Delivery at Old Trafford. With a background in operations and events management that included several years at Jockey Club Catering and Aintree Racecourse, Stephen brings extensive knowledge and experience to the Group as a highly commercial and motivated leader, committed to driving the highest levels of customer service and care.

Following his appointment, Mr Cooper described his aspirations for the new role saying, “It is a privilege to be part of such a dynamic and diverse business as Holker and indeed the guardian of the racing legacy that Cartmel holds. I hope to grow the Racecourse business without in anyway compromising on its unique character and enhance the reputation of Holker Hall as one of the finest historic houses in the country with an exceptional and evolving visitor experience.”
