Kirsty Ridge, of Lakeland Inns

A collective of businesses producing handmade and artisan gifts will present their festive wares from a special Ulverston shop.

The Lakeland Winter Pop-Up opens its doors this Friday and will feature everything from handmade fudge to gins and candles to cakes.

The idea is the brainchild of Kirsty Ridge who saw an opportunity to promote local businesses at a time revenues have been hit by the COVID-19 pandemic.

She said: “There is so much on offer in Ulverston and the surrounding areas from businesses which have had a hard time during the pandemic.

“We have managed to find a space which lends itself perfectly to being transformed into a pop-up shop from which we can sell these goods.

“For anyone who has not yet sorted their Christmas gifts, every taste is catered for and we welcome browsers to drop in and take a look at what is in store.”

Retail outlets reopened this week after a month-long government-imposed lockdown. Christmas shoppers are expected to hit the high streets after weeks of restrictions, potentially saving the festive season for retailers.

The team at Lakeland Inns, which owns five pubs and a brewery, has been busy creating homemade produce.

Among the items on sale will be chutneys and infused oils, handmade fudge, hot chocolate stirrers and homemade truffles, marmalade, lemon curd and rum butter, Christmas cake and gingerbread cake, mince pies, spiced pickled onions and pickled beetroot.

Lakeland Brewhouse beers will also be available, along with beer advent calendars and Lakeland Inns wine.

Other local suppliers taking part in the venture include Wolftown Gin,The Seed Hut, Bee Kind natural skincare and candles M&B Gins, Kindred Spirit Cocktails and Sarah’s Bookfolds.

The entrance to the Lakeland Winter Pop-Up will be located adjacent to the rear entrance of The Sun Inn off New Market Street.

It will be open from 11am-5pm Monday through Friday and from 9am until 6pm on Saturday. On Sunday the shop will be open from 11am- 4pm.

A custom-made hamper service will be offered along with free local delivery (minimum spend applies) and a click and collect service.

One lucky shopper will receive a £100 Lakeland Inns voucher which will be hidden inside one of the hampers.

Kirsty said: “The idea is to support local businesses through what has been a terrible year. We’re asking people to shop local and support our fantastic community.”
