Carlisle’s MP has invited the Secretary of State for Department, Culture Media and Sport to the city to showcase its tourism offer as businesses in the industry reopen.
The Government has released its roadmap out of lockdown and Mr Stevenson said the tourism and hospitality industries, which will begin to open up, are a critical part of the economy in Cumbria, and in Carlisle.
Mr Stevenson said: “I have written to Oliver Dowden asking him to visit Carlisle and Cumbria to demonstrate the importance of tourism and the hospitality industry to our city and Cumbria.
“This will give him an opportunity to visit some of our visitor attractions such as Tullie House and meet with tourism and hospitality businesses as we come out of lockdown.
“I very much look forward to welcoming him to the county.”
