Cumbrian businesses that trade with Europe are being encouraged to take part in a survey designed to explore the impacts of the UK’s exit from the European Union.

The survey has been organised by the Cumbria Local Enterprise Partnership (CLEP), the business-led partnership between Cumbria’s local authorities and the private sector tasked with determining local economic priorities and undertaking activities to drive economic growth.

“The end of the EU Transition period has resulted in changes for businesses throughout the UK,” explained Jo Lappin, CLEP chief executive.

“We would like to better understand the impact that these have made on our businesses that trade with the EU.

“We appreciate that businesses are really busy, and are still coping with the impacts of COVID-19, but the survey should not take up too much time and the results will be very helpful in making sure that our businesses get the support that they need, going forward.”

The overall project objectives of the survey are to:

  • Understand how Cumbrian businesses are responding to the new arrangements under the UK-EU Trade and Cooperation Agreement (TCA);
  • Assess the potential future impacts and implications of the TCA on the Cumbrian economy and business base (taking account of the size and sector of businesses);
  • Develop recommendations on these implications to Government for policy and business support.

Mrs Lappin added: “Cumbria LEP is keen to gather information on businesses’ experience to date, expectations about future impacts and how they might respond to these. We are particularly keen to hear from those businesses that have previously traded with the EU and/or employ EU staff.”

Businesses interested in taking part can access the survey at www.surveymonkey.co.uk/r/CumbriaEU0321

Participants are asked to complete the survey by March 26.
