Bosses of a popular West Cumbrian bar and live music venue have issued a statement to say it is still open.
Reports earlier today suggested that the owners of The Yellow Earl in Whitehaven had gone into liquidation – leaving a question mark over the future of the pub.
But the venue, on Lowther Street, issued a statement on social media saying: “To confirm, we have been under new management since November 2022.
“We have had a lot of messages regarding bookings etc. The pub is OPEN as normal! All quizzes, bingos, boozy barons feasts and parties are still on!”
The pub was previously run by The Yellow Limited. Companies House said it appointed liquidators on May 3, with debts of more than £223,000.
The former directors of the pub are listed as Daniel Edward Maudling and Elizabeth Laura May Cannon.
Daryl Warwick and Mike Kienlen of Armstrong Watson have been appointed as joint voluntary liquidators.
The Yellow Limited’s Statement of Affairs, which is available to view via the Companies House register, details creditors are owed £223,932.
The statement lists the company’s assets at £6,144.65 and an unpaid tax bill of £155,094.
The company also owes £44,856 to HSBC for a government bounce bank loan, brought in during the pandemic to support small businesses.
Copeland Borough Council is owed £9,000 and PRS for Music Limited, a British music copyright collective who pay musicians for their music to be played in public spaces, is owed £10,301.47.
A number of other businesses are also listed as creditors for smaller amounts including Cumbria Waste Management Ltd, Companies House and British Gas.
The new management of The Yellow Earl confirmed it had a number of events planned, including one of its biggest gigs ever as The Sherlocks take to the bar’s stage playing live on June 9.
