Sellafield Ltd’s chief executive has stepped down.
Martin Chown is leaving in July to take up a new role in the private sector.
He joined the organisation in 2016 as supply chain director and was appointed CEO in 2020. He led Sellafield Ltd through important work, including work on its culture, the company said.
On Martin’s departure, Sellafield Ltd’s current chief nuclear officer Euan Hutton will take on the role of interim CEO.
Sellafield Ltd chairman Tony Meggs and the company’s board will be supporting Euan in his new role while overseeing the transition of authority as the decision on a permanent successor is completed.
Tony said: “I would like to thank Martin and give him my best for the future.
“We are focused on ensuring a safe and orderly transition. We are fortunate to have a highly capable leader in Euan Hutton, who has worked at Sellafield for 28 years, to take us forward.”
Euan has had a 31-year career in the national and international nuclear industry, a career he started at Sellafield as a graduate.
He has previously held senior leadership roles with responsibility for the decommissioning of the UK’s nuclear risks and hazards on the Sellafield site.
Euan was also appointed as director of environment, health and safety in 2016, where he supported the transition of the company to being a wholly owned subsidiary of the NDA.
He also says he is a passionate advocate of mental health, openly sharing his own experiences to encourage employees to talk about their own mental health and seek support.
