A Cumbrian micro-brewery is riding high after winning a prestigious award for its gin.
Hesket Newmarket Brewery – Cumbria’s oldest surviving micro-brewery and the country’s first co-operatively owned brewery – won a silver medal at the International Wine and Sprit Awards.
The award was for its classic Dry Gin inspired by the Lake District and the fells that surround the brewery, based in the north of the national park.
The brewery said: “We knew that we had produced an outstanding gin, but to get a score of 90 is beyond our expectations! We are thrilled that our hard work and dedication to quality and flavour has been recognised.”
Judges said: “Delight in the inviting aromas of roots, wood, and fresh herbs. The strong, persistent flavours dance gracefully on the palate. A moderate finish leaves a satisfyingly dry yet balanced impression.”
