Cumbrian law firm Scott Duff & Co has announced that new members have joined its teams in Carlisle and Penrith.
The firm, established in 1977, said its continue growth had led to the new appointments.
On behalf of the directors, Cheryl Corson said: “We are extremely delighted to welcome the new members of our growing and thriving team.
“We feel that they are all talented and friendly people, each with a passion for serving the community and providing the highest standard of service to our clients.
“We have always supported staff with their own development and ambitions, and both Suzanne and I trained as solicitors at Scott Duff & Co, before carrying on to become directors and running the firm.”
The new team members are:
Eden Goldie
Eden joins as a conveyancing executive.
Eden started her legal career as an assistant in Carlisle, quickly falling in love with the fast-pace and customer facing side of conveyancing.
She spent a few years building up to handling her own caseload and found an interest in the more complex aspects of local property transactions, which largely included rural matters such as private drainage, local occupancy clauses and unregistered land.
Keen to expand her skillset, Eden then spent a few years working for big City firms to gain more hands-on experience with complicated Leasehold properties, which is a prudent area in the property world following the implementation of the Building Safety Act in 2022.
Eden then returned to her roots of the local high street, where she feels most at home.
In her own time, Eden enjoys hiking, shopping and lunching with friends.
Susan Thurston
Solicitor Susan joins the residential property team.
She has worked locally for many years and is passionate about solving the many and varied problems that come with a conveyancing caseload, she said.
Susan will be working from the Carlisle office and added: “I am so happy that I joined Scott Duff. I love the welcoming environment and great people!”
Scott Duff and Co has a history of providing training to law graduates and supporting progression when it recognises talent within the existing team.
It has offered training contracts to two aspiring solicitors and said it was putting a long standing member of the team with great potential through her training in order to gain a formal legal qualification.
Lauren Blades
Trainee solicitor Lauren embarked on her legal career later in life, after running a successful business and seeing how the law affects so many different areas on a day-to-day basis, she was keen to learn more about the law and apply it in a different way.
Currently doing her seat in the residential conveyancing department, Lauren opted to do her training contract with Scott Duff and Co following her move to Penrith due to it being part of the community she has come to love.
Outside of work and study, Lauren loves to get outside with her two small children and particularly enjoys running, fishing and fell walking.
Lauren said: “I am looking forward to gaining experience in the different areas of law and working to help local people while being part of a fun and friendly team.”
Ruby Jones
Trainee solicitor Ruby was inspired by the successful women in her family and follow in their footsteps, by helping people and being their voice to find the best outcome.
Having worked at another law firm, Ruby chose Scott Duff & Co to do her training with because she was passionate about doing so at a smaller, local firm, who initially encouraged Ruby to apply for her training contract following her application for a legal secretary role.
When not studying or building client relationships in her current seat within the family department, Ruby likes to spend time with family, cooking or getting her steps in on the fells/in the gym.
Ruby said: “I’m really excited to build my career with an evolving firm that’s adapting to modern times.”
Katrina Orchard
Katrina joined Scott Duff & Co as an office junior in 2002, straight out of sixth form, but not really knowing which direction she wanted to go in.
When an opportunity to cover maternity leave in the family department arose the following year she took full advantage and very quickly realised her passion for the complex sector.
When out of the office, Katrina spends her weekends cheering her two children on from the sideline of their local grassroots football club or catching up with friends.
Scott Duff & Co will put her through her training.
Currently exploring the route she wants to go down to become qualified, Katrina said: “Now that my children are getting older and are becoming more independent, I feel that now is a good time for me to do something that I have longed to do and am over the moon that Scott Duff & Co are fully supportive of me furthering my career.”
Cheryl added: “We are very pleased to support Katrina in her ambition to obtain a formal legal qualification. She is an asset to our firm and will add strength and knowledge to our growing family law team.”
