Workers at the power plant which supplies the Sellafield site in West Cumbria have called off their strike as they have accepted a new pay deal.

Industrial action by around 40 members of the Unite union working for PX Limited at the Fellside CHP Plant has been averted after they accepted an enhanced pay deal.

Workers based at the site planned to walk out last month, but it was stopped after negotiations between Unite and the employer led to a new pay offer.

Following a ballot, staff have accepted a pay offer of four per cent across all salaries and roles, along with an additional one-off one per cent payment for this year, backdated to May 1 this year.

Unite general secretary Sharon Graham said: “This is an important win for our members at PX Limited, who stood together to ensure they were given an appropriate pay deal. Unite have once again delivered for our members on pay.”

The union said PX Limited had also committed to undertake benchmarking to ensure pay is competitive within the energy sector.

Unite regional officer Ryan Armstrong said: “We were always willing to negotiate with PX Limited to avoid disruptive industrial action and we are very pleased this has ended in a much-improved pay offer from the company.

“Unite looks forward to working with them on benchmarking, in order to ensure any future pay offers reflect the intrinsic and specialist work our members at PX Limited do at Sellafield.”
