West Cumbria-based Delkia has opened an engineering production centre in Haydock, near St Helens, in a move to expand its operations into Merseyside.

The 16,000sq ft manufacturing facility was officially opened by David Baines, Labour MP for St Helens North.

Delkia, which specialises in safety-related and mission-critical systems, has grown steadily since its beginning in 2013 in West Cumbria.

Making the move to a larger facility will enable the company to keep pace with its growing order book and accommodate complex, large-scale production.

The new production centre in Haydock brings Delkia’s manufacturing facilities and engineering labs into one specialist site – significantly increasing the company’s manufacturing capacity and supporting the next phase of growth for its skilled engineering team.

The centre specialises in the testing and assembly of power and propulsion systems, and expands Delkia’s ability to produce, store and work across varied projects for the aerospace, maritime and nuclear markets,” Delkia’s CEO Kurt Canfield said.

“It is a great success to move into this huge production facility and bring our manufacturing and engineering expertise together under one roof. This next chapter in Haydock will create exciting new opportunities for innovation and continue to build a strong future and drive success together.”

The new premises has been named The Nexus Centre and was suggested by Delkia’s programme manager Steve Postlethwaite.

Announcing the name at the opening event, Mr Canfield said: “A nexus is a connection and linking point, which seems a fitting name for this new centre where our staff across all disciplines and projects will be coming together to deliver highly assured products and systems.”

Delkia’s investment in the local area will also create new opportunities for skilled employment and strengthen local supply chains.

Mr Barnes, who officially opened the facility, said: “The defence sector is vitally important to our economy and of course our national security, and I am proud to welcome such an outstanding company to our local area.”
