A new director has been appointed for Furness Building society.

John Worth has joined the board of directors and brings with him over 40 years of financial services experience to this non-executive role including retail and investment banking, life and general insurance and senior positions in finance, IT, operations and risk.

He is chief executive at the Church Commissioners of England and has previously held executive board positions at several financial services companies.

He has also volunteered for almost 25 years with the NSPCC, the country’s leading children’s charity, including six years as a non-executive board trustee member.

Mr Worth will take up the position in January, joining the eight-strong board at Furness Building Society which is responsible for ensuring the society’s ongoing success and long-term sustainability.

He is also set to assume the role of chair of the society’s audit committee when the current chair Phillip McLelland stands down.

Graham Berville, chair of Furness Building Society, said: “We’re pleased to welcome John to our board.

“He has a breadth of knowledge and expertise in financial services while his leadership in charitable and not-for-profit organisations will bring valuable perspective to our work.

“His appointment further strengthens the board’s capabilities as we continue to focus on the society’s continued success and long-term growth, robust governance and delivery of value to our members.”

Mr Worth added: “I am honoured to be joining the board of Furness Building Society. The society has a strong heritage and a clear commitment to members and communities and I look forward to contributing to its success.

“I am eager to work alongside my fellow board members to help guide the long-term strategy and ensure Furness remains resilient, sustainable and future-focused.”
