Work to bring the Jennings brewery in Cockermouth back to life is continuing with another key appointment being made.
Gavin Cooper has been appointed taproom manager and will bring extensive expertise gained elsewhere in the UK to Cumbria.
“On hearing the exciting news that Jennings Brewery was on its way back, the opportunity to join the small management team at the start of this new beginning was exciting and too good to resist!” Gavin said.
While working as an IT manager he volunteered at beer festivals taking time to enrol on the Cicerone Certification Program to learn more about real ale and craft beer.
In 2020 he swopped IT for an industry he loves winning CAMRA branch pub of the year two years running and gaining entry to the CAMRA Good Beer Guide at the first attempt.
“Furthering on my experience in beer, I was invited and trained as a beer judge at both SIBA and CAMRA competitions in the south east before joining one of the UK’s biggest independent craft breweries as part of their taproom management team,” Gavin said.
“Now here at Jennings Brewery as taproom manager I have the task and opportunity to establish a dynamic taproom and build a new team to serve the classic, Cockermouth-brewed Jennings ales alongside a quality selection of guest beers, cider, wine, spirits, soft drinks and bar snacks.”
Jennings was taken over in February and hopes its first beers will be ready this summer.
