Christmas has come early for a Cumbrian bakery after their mince pies were nominated for the Great British Food Awards.

The luxury orange and brandy pies, produced by Kendal-based Ginger Bakers, have been shortlisted in the Best British Speciality category, which focuses on traditional, iconic British food and drink.

Owner Lisa Smith said: “It’s a real achievement for the team. Keep your fingers crossed for us and let’s hope we can bring home another foodie plaudit for Cumbria.”

The Great British Food Awards were launched in 2014 to celebrate the country’s finest home-grown ingredients, as well as the hard-working folk who produce and cook with them covering everything from dairy, cheese, artisan drinks right through to savoury preserves.

The judges include some of the UK’s best-known foodies, including food writer, stylist and broadcaster Rosie Birkett, MasterChef the Professionals finalist Santosh Shah, award-winning chefs Michel Roux Jr and Adam Handling, food writer Martha Collison, and TV presenter Monica Galetti.

Judging takes place in September and the final results will be revealed on October 28. Wish Ginger Bakers good luck!
