An established Cumbrian architects has opened a new Manchester office.

Manning Elliott Partnership, headquartered in Penrith, has expanded to the city.

Its new office is at Lockside Mill in Marple – a Grade II-listed former canal warehouse.

The Manchester office is led by John Edmondson, Director and Architect, who lives locally.

He said: “We’re thrilled to establish our base at Lockside Mill. It’s a unique and characterful building that connects history with contemporary practice – the perfect setting to grow our presence in Greater Manchester while staying true to our values.”

The new office carries personal significance for Chris Staniowski, architect and director of the Penrith office, who grew up in Marple and attended Marple Hall School and later the University of Manchester.

He said: “Opening a studio here feels like returning home. This is a town that helped shape me, and it’s incredibly meaningful to now contribute to its built future through our work.”

Manning Elliott Partnership’s new office

Founded in 1985, Manning Elliott Partnership has grown into one of the region’s most respected architectural practices, known for its sustainable, and contextually sensitive designs across residential, civic, and commercial sectors.

The practice was established by Adrian Manning and Max Elliott, and has been shaped by their shared vision and values. Adrian, who died in 2024, grew up in Wythenshawe, Manchester, and studied architecture at the Manchester College of Art & Design.

Chris added: “Opening this office in the city that shaped Adrian’s early years is a fitting and heartfelt continuation of the story he began.”

The move to Marple is part of a wider growth strategy developed by current directors Chris Staniowski, Nick Bailey, and John Edmondson, building on Manning Elliott’s reputation across Cumbria and the North of England.
