A Lake District business owner was invited to 11 Downing Street this week for a reception recognising the contribution small businesses make to the UK economy.
Rachel Cabble, of Cable and Blake, attended the reception hosted by Chancellor Rachel Reeves, which brought together recent winners and finalists of The Small Awards, celebrating the UK’s smallest and greatest businesses.
Cable and Blake won the Bricks and Clicks award for Best Multi-Channel Small Business, which recognises small businesses that use multiple channels innovatively to develop their business.
Cable and Blake specialises in Herdwick wool fabrics sourced from the Lake District.
Representatives from over 40 small businesses, ranging from micro-businesses and family-owned companies to start-ups and high street heroes.
Rachel said: “Being invited to 11 Downing Street was an unforgettable moment and a proud milestone for our family-run business. Winning the Bricks and Clicks Award has shown how a small business can thrive through creativity and collaboration.
“We’re proud that our commitment to our Lake District heritage shines through. It was a real honour to represent the area and the many talented makers we work with who help bring our Herdwick fabrics to life.”
Mrs Reeves said: “It’s fantastic to celebrate the success of some of the UK’s brightest and best small businesses who play a vital role in driving growth, supporting jobs and keeping our high streets and communities thriving.
Michelle Ovens CBE, founder of Small Business Britain, said: “Small businesses are the heart and soul of their communities and contribute massively to the UK economy.”
“It is fantastic to see the stellar achievements of the Cable and Blake team recognised by the Chancellor and the Treasury in this way, at such a special event. It is so important that the whole nation gets behind small businesses and gives them all the support they need.”
