Paul Foster, head of programmes, Enterprising Cumbria

Enterprising Cumbria has been named the regional delivery partner for the Government’s new Business Growth Service.

The flagship initiative was launched last week as part of Backing Your Business, the Government’s national economic plan to support small and medium-sized
enterprises.

The new service aims to reduce confusion and connect businesses with the right advice at the right time, through a more joined-up, streamlined approach locally and nationally.

Businesses across Cumbria will benefit from easier access to free, expert and impartial advice.

“We’re delighted to be Cumbria’s delivery partner for the Business Growth Service,” said Paul Foster, head of programmes at Enterprising Cumbria.

“This partnership gives Cumbrian businesses the best of both worlds, through our organisation’s local knowledge and personalised advice, paired with simpler access to the full range of national opportunities.

“We know businesses can feel overwhelmed by the current support landscape. This new approach is designed to change that, making things easier, faster and more joined up.”

Enterprising Cumbria will deliver the support through its Cumbria Accelerator programme: a dedicated business growth and innovation programme designed to help local businesses start, grow and thrive.

“Our Cumbria Accelerator programme is already supporting hundreds of local businesses, from new start-ups taking their first step, to established firms looking to develop new products, reach new markets or grow their team,” Paul added.

The Business Growth Service is a central pillar of the Government’s Backing Your Business plan, the national economic strategy to unlock the growth and productivity potential of small and medium-sized enterprises.

From tackling late payments and improving access to finance, to helping businesses embrace digital tools, decarbonise and export with confidence, the plan
looks to address key barriers to growth and create a more supportive environment for SMEs across the UK.

The launch of the Business Growth Service responds directly to feedback from UK small and medium firms, which highlighted the challenges of navigating fragmented support.
