A new Cockermouth brewery has been given a £5,000 boost by a town tech firm.
Craft beer outfit Crooked River Brewing Co was set up by Phil Scholey and Alan Fitton-Crellin earlier this year and the pair launched a crowdfunding campaign so they could scale up their production and put on events in the new year.
They want to build on the town’s brewing heritage – particularly after Jennings owner Marston’s closed its brewery – and stimulate tourism for the town.
After raising £7,000, Createc, based on the Derwent Mills Commercial Park on Wakefield Road, donated £5,000 to the brewers.
Phil said: “I met with Createc’s CEO Matt Mellor, who was inspired by our vision for Cockermouth’s future, a vision that their company shares. He offered a considerable donation to our cause which led to us working together on a new beer.”
Phil and Alan created the limited edition Double Dry Hop Pale, which is available at Shills in the town.
Phil added: “By supporting businesses like Crooked River and Shills of Cockermouth, Createc is helping to make Cockermouth an amazing place to live and work, not only for their employees, but also for the wider community.
“In return we have brewed a beer that embodies their company’s brand with robotic themed artwork thanks to local street artist Beardy Synergy. A great way for the company to show gratitude to their employees at Christmas who can enjoy our beer or exchange for other gifts from Shill’s – such a brilliant idea!
“This donation gives us a huge boost and brings us ever so closer to our target. We hope it inspires other local businesses to support us or work with us in the future.”
