Sarah McIntosh toasts the opening of the Angel Inn

A revamped Lake District hotel has thrown open its doors in time for Christmas.

Work began to overhaul the Angel Inn in Bowness in October by Newcastle owner The Inn Collection.

It said the Grade II listed building, on Helm Road, has had its 32 bedrooms and ground floor spaces updated.

There has also been works to the grounds, adding to the grassed terrace areas to the front of the main building, creating further outdoor space to enjoy.

Opening first for food and drinks from tomorrow, December 23, the first staying guests will be welcomed to the property on December 27.

The Angel Inn is the first of several Lake District properties owned by The Inn Collection Group that will be reopening in the coming months, with work currently progressing on Ambleside properties The Wateredge Inn and The Waterhead Inn and Grasmere’s The Swan.

Celebrating The Angel Inn’s reopening, operations manager Paul Brown said: “Angels and Christmas are natural bedfellows so it’s nice that we are back to welcoming guests in the build up to the big day this year.

“We’re looking forward to opening and welcoming drinkers and diners in for a pre-Christmas treat and then to welcoming guests from December 27. We have strong occupancy for the first few days that we are open to guests, so it is great to see that the reopening is keenly awaited.

“We have created a wonderful bar and restaurant that people are going to seek out and enjoy and that is going to be further enhanced when the weather improves, and people can enjoy the great outdoor spaces.

“The work has refreshed all the bedrooms across the three buildings into the group’s style, and we know people are going to be delighted with them when they stay with us.”
