The line-up has been revealed for the Cumbria Farmers Conference next month.
The conference, organised by the Farmer Network in partnership with the Westmorland Family, takes place at Rheged, near Penrith, on Thursday November 20 from 10am to 3.30pm.
Cumbrian broadcaster Caz Graham will host the event and she will lead the morning session to focus on what makes a successful farm business.
Guest speakers Steve Dunkley, of HSBC, Chris Clark, of Nethergill Associates and Rob Hitch, of Dodd & Co Accountants and local farmer Steve Dunning, of Orton, will focus on business mindset, maximum sustainable output and interpreting farm accounts.
After lunch, the conference will look at farm succession planning with Victoria Ivinson, of EQ Accountants and Nicola Steadman, of Thompson Hayton Winkley Solicitors. This will include some common situations that farming families often have to deal with.
The final session will feature three younger people within the farming industry. Robbie Tuer, Cumbria Young Farmers Clubs together with farmers Hector Meanwell and Georgia Hunter will share their farming stories so far and delve into the support that our next farming generation will need in order to be successful in future.
Adam Day, managing director of the Farmer Network, said: “We have an excellent line up of speakers and working farmers who will share knowledge and lived experience.
“This event is created by farmers for farmers. The sessions will be open and inclusive, and we hope will really help farmers from across Cumbria examine their own businesses in order to prepare them for whatever the future may hold”.
Mr Dunning says “Like many farming families we have had to make positive changes to our farm business.
“It is not always easy but when you get it right, it is rewarding in more ways than one. I am looking forward to sharing what we have done”.
