It’s the end of an era for a Cumbrian-based rail operator which has been responsible for providing support to mainline passenger trains.
For the past 13 years, Direct Rail Services has been responsible for providing help for Avanti West Coast services that have suffered a breakdown in a project known as Thunderbird.
A fleet of locomotives have been on hand in the line in the event of a Pendolino breakdown to reduce possible disruption when something goes wrong.
The company said Avanti has expressed its thanks for DRS’s support over the years, recognising that DRS has often gone above and beyond when called into action.
DRS added: “We would like to thank all of our, train crew, engineers and everyone who has contributed to making this service a success.”
