Barrow’s growing role in advanced manufacturing and engineering will be highlighted at an event organised by the University of Cumbria.
Building the Future Workforce to be held at its Barrow campus on Tuesday March 3, from 9.30am to 3pm, aims to bring local and regional employers together to discuss skills development and future workforce needs.
The campus is intended to act as a point of connection between education and industry, with a focus on aligning skills provision with employer demand.
Employers will have the opportunity to meet University of Cumbria staff and learn more about the university’s curriculum including engineering, project delivery, leadership, and supply chain disciplines along with information on degree apprenticeships, workforce development programmes, and partnership models.
“This event is about creating space for open discussion between employers and the university around skills, workforce challenges and future needs, grounded in the realities of this place,” Steve Wood, employer engagement manager at the University of Cumbria, said.
“By bringing people together at the Barrow campus, we’re able to listen directly to industry, understand local priorities, and shape learning that reflects the economic, social and industrial context of the Furness area.
“That place-based approach helps ensure our provision is relevant, accessible and closely aligned to the opportunities and challenges facing the regional economy.”
Employers will also be invited to contribute their views on future skills requirements which will help map out the university’s curriculum and partnership development.
Registration is now open via Building the Future Workforce Barrow 3 March 2026
