The chair of Cumbria Tourism has attended a special reception at 10 Downing Street to mark the launch of English Tourism Week.
The event, organised by the Government and VisitBritain, brought together key figures from across the tourism industry to celebrate the sector’s contribution to communities and the national economy.
During the reception, Mark spoke with Tourism Minister Stephanie Peacock, highlighting several important issues for Cumbria and the wider visitor economy.
The discussion included celebrating Cumbria securing stages of the Tour de France in 2027, and the importance of national government working with the county to ensure a strong and lasting legacy for the visitor economy and local communities.
Mark also highlighted the work Cumbria Tourism is delivering to develop the tourism workforce, including initiatives focused on engaging young people and supporting individuals through programmes linked with the prison service.
The minister was invited to visit Cumbria to meet local businesses directly and see the positive role tourism plays in supporting communities, jobs and the wider local economy.
