Cumbria’s James Cropper has taken home a prestigious award for sustainable innovation.
The papermaker, based at Burneside, near Kendal, won the award at this year’s Paris Packaging Week for its work with one of France’s most historic and distinctive champagne houses, Maison Perrier-Jouët.
It is the firm’s second consecutive victory in the category, after clinching the trophy last year for its collaboration with Dom Ruinart.
James Cropper and Maison Perrier-Jouët created the Belle Epoque Cocoon: an eco-designed gift box made from paper pulp and vine shoots.
The award marks the start of a new year following a transformational period for James Cropper, the firm said, which saw the group’s established speciality paper business combine with Colourform, the award-winning moulded pulp innovation to form the new Paper Products division, now led by managing director Richard Bracewell.
Mr Bracewell said: “We’re thrilled to kick off 2024 with industry recognition at this year’s Paris Packaging Week which has showcased our ground-breaking collaboration with Maison Perrier-Jouët and reaffirmed our place in the luxury sustainable packaging space.
“The sustainability credentials of this project challenge and redefine the traditional codes of luxury packaging, perfectly marrying prestige and beauty with environmental consciousness.”
