Story Homes donates £100,000 to Eden Valley Hospice and Jigsaw

Local housebuilder Story Homes has donated £100,000 to the Carlisle-based charity Eden Valley Hospice and Jigsaw.

Eden Valley Hospice is a charity dedicated to providing specialist care for adults in north Cumbria who have life limiting conditions, as well as support for their families, friends, and carers.

Jigsaw, Cumbria’s only children’s hospice, provides day-to day-care and activities for children and young people from across the county. Support is provided in a home from home setting and each patient’s care is personalised towards their own needs.

The housebuilder, which currently has 22 live housing developments across the north of England and southern Scotland, recently visited the hospice to present the donation to staff, whilst taking the opportunity to learn more about the important service and support provided to the community.

The donation will be used towards the £4.8 million annual running costs of the hospice. Only 20% of these funds are provided by local NHS and government grants, meaning the hospice relies on donations from individuals and businesses to make up the shortfall in funding.

Fred Story, chairman of Story Homes said: “As a Carlisle-headquartered business I am extremely proud that we’ve been able to share this donation with such an important charity that provides vital support for local people and their families at a time when it is most needed.”

Eleanor Viney, fundraising manager for Eden Valley Hospice and Jigsaw said: “As a charity, we rely on the kindness of our local community to provide the specialist end of life care that local families need. Without the generosity of local people and companies such as Story Homes, we couldn’t support families affected by life-limiting illness during such difficult times.”

Julie Clayton, CEO of Eden Valley Hospice and Jigsaw added: “We were absolutely blown away by the extremely generous donation from Story Homes which will allow us to ensure that compassionate care is here now, and in the months and years to come. We are honoured that they have chosen to support our hospice and we would like to sincerely thank them from the bottom of our hearts.”
