Local businesses and training companies are gearing up to showcase their work and apprenticeship opportunities at the second Copeland’s Skills Fair organised by the area’s MP.

Returning for on Thursday 8th November at The Solway Hall in Whitehaven from 3pm till 7pm, the free event hosted by Trudy Harrison MP, will once again offer young people and those looking to retrain the opportunity to find out more about what is on offer in their area.

The event is being sponsored by Morgan Sindall Construction and Infrastructure and National Nuclear Laboratory.

This year, companies and organisations including the Royal Marines, North West Ambulance Service, West Lakes Adventure, Copeland Borough Council and many more have been invited to showcase their career and apprenticeship opportunities.

Liane White, NNL’s VP for Talent, said: “NNL are delighted to be one of the main sponsors for this event: developing talent in Cumbria is an essential part of our resourcing plans and NNL have invested significantly in our Early Career programmes which offer valuable experience and dedicated development programmes on which to build an exciting career within the nuclear sector.”

Trudy Harrison MP, said: “I’ll be there on the day, enthusiastically supporting people of all ages looking for some career inspiration and opportunities.

“Without sponsorship, this Skills Fair wouldn’t be possible, so I would like to thank sponsors NNL and Morgan Sindall for making it happen.”

Dave Polkey, specialist operations director at Morgan Sindall said: “Morgan Sindall Construction & Infrastructure is delighted to be one of the main sponsors for the upcoming Copeland Skills Fair.

“The aim of the skills fair is to encourage young people to find out more about the different apprenticeship and training routes which are currently available for school leavers.

“At the skills fair we will explain that there is a wide range of career pathways available within the construction and infrastructure sector.

“As a company, we are committed to investing in the local regions where we work and in this case the people who live in West Cumbria.”

Last year more than 45 local companies and businesses including Storey Homes, Sellafield Ltd and NNL exhibited their work to hundreds of school pupils and job seekers.

Continuing her pledge to ensure a bright future for the area’s young people, Mrs Harrison’s skills fair will see local employers, career professionals and training providers representing a broad range of trades come together to help give school students and job seekers some helpful career guidance.
