Businesses are being invited to share best practices in digital marketing at an event being organised by Carlisle College in partnership with Intro.

The business breakfast will focus on how firms can best encourage staff to make the most of social media and other digital marketing skills with an employers’ panel featuring contributions from Armstrong Watson, Bruce & Lukes and The Cumberland.

It will also be a chance to hear about how the next generation of digital marketeers are being trained in new apprenticeships at the college and already making a difference in local businesses.

Andrew Dodds, Director of Business Development and Marketing at Carlisle College, said: “I think most businesses can see that there are benefits in social media and digital marketing, but they find that getting take up around the business is a challenge, particularly from those outside the marketing function.

“So our discussion will cover some useful ideas about using digital marketing, including the Apprenticeship training route, but I’m also hoping we can hear from businesses about the best ways to encourage all staff to make most of the opportunities to blog, use social media and promote the business online in a co-ordinated and strategic way.”

The event will also hear from Nick Turner and Helen Statham whose PR and social media agency, Intro, helps a number of leading Cumbrian businesses with their digital marketing.

Helen Statham said: “It’s always great to hear from other businesses any successes they’ve been having with social media and their marketing, but I’m also looking forward to hearing from some of the College’s apprentices and find out what their take is how marketing is changing online.”

Carlisle College launched its digital marketing apprenticeship in September and already has 8 students learning everything from website development, marketing and business principles and working towards a nationally recognised qualification in social media strategy by CIW (Certified Internet Web Professional). Apprentices attend College one day a week, which allows them to share their knowledge with their employers who include Butterworths and Carlisle City Council and SP Training.

Donna-Marie Brown, Marketing Manager at SP Training said “I was delighted to find that Carlisle College were introducing a Digital Marketing Apprenticeship and worked with them to sign up one of our employees who is now both enjoying the course and benefiting from it. Each week he is learning new skills, which we are already seeing him put into practice in the workplace.”

The Digital Marketing Business Breakfast takes place at Carlisle College on November 22nd, starting at 8am. Book your place at https://carlislecollege.eventbrite.co.uk
