This festive season, in a bid to sustain year-round employment for its 10-strong permanent workforce, Granny Dowbekin’s is throwing opens its doors for festive gatherings and Christmas celebrations, both daytime and evening.

For 15 winter seasons past, this popular Pooley Bridge tea room has weathered the quieter months and stayed open to warmly welcome customers despite the economic challenges the colder time of year presents and without any real focus on Christmas itself.

However, all that is set to change in 2018 as for the first time ever, ‘Granny D’s does Christmas’!

Owner Colin Hindle is hoping to entice walkers, bikers, sailors, cyclists, wild swimmers, campers, climbers dog lovers, nature lovers and anyone else around the valley in from the cold to experience a warm welcome and traditional, home-cooked Christmas fayre.

As a major, year-round employer in the village, Colin is passionate about creating a sustainable economy where residents know they have gainful year-round employment and visitors know that this little tourist hotspot is open for business 365 days of the year and are able to plan not just lunch at Granny’s but a whole day of activity in and around the village and the valley.

Colin commented: “It’s heartening to have witnessed, and indeed been part of, the renaissance that Pooley Bridge and the wider valley has undergone over the last few years. With interesting and attractive new businesses such as award-winning 1863,  Chestnut House and their selection of 200 gins plus Another Place, the Lake to the most prominent tourism attractions including Ullswater Steamers, Dalemain and the brilliant Ullswater Way, there are more and more reasons to visit year-round – including in the depths of Winter.”

Celebrate this Christmas with friends and family in the heart of Pooley Bridge at the foot of beautiful Ullswater. Granny D’s latest addition, a light-filled riverside Garden Room is available for exclusive use for up to 24 people. For larger groups, the main room is perfect for up to 40 people. Menus for private parties are totally tailored to customers’ requirements – so whether you’re veggie, vegan or just very particular, guests can expect a tailor-made menu that will bring everyone Christmas cheer.

In addition to private parties, every day from 1 December, regular customers can try Christmas-inspired dishes from their new seasonal menu.

Granny Dowbekin’s is located just beside Pooley Bridge itself. The Tearoom is open daily from 10am – 4pm serving breakfast, fresh bakes, sandwiches, hearty lunches and traditional afternoon teas.  To book a Christmas party or gathering, call 017684 86453. For more information visit www.grannydowbekins.co.uk
