Business network to host comedy night

A new venue in Carlisle will host a comedy night with a difference later this month.

There will be wit, puns and pints aplenty at West Walls Brewing Co for a business networking night that’s just for laughs.

Award winning Manchester comedian Big Lou will MC the gig which has been organised as a LA23Net business networking event.

Alongside Big Lou, the event showcases three acclaimed comedians from the region.

“They are all award-winning acts and there is something for everyone,” said Big Lou, who regularly plays premier venues across the North West.

First on will be Percy Savage from Kendal who was shortlisted for the BBC New Comedy Award last year.

He will be followed by rising star Lizzie Norm from Lancaster who decided to launch her stand-up career aged 53 and now has her material regularly aired on BBC radio.

Headlining is former dairy farmer Pete Otway, a BBC New Comedy Award Finalist who has played to sell out audiences at the Edinburgh Fringe and performed stand-up on BBC Radio 2 and Radio 4.

“All these acts, as well as being funny, are really likable. They are a friendly bunch, they are not dark,” said Big Lou who describes his own humour as punch-line heavy and truth based.

“I am terribly northern, I consider Birmingham to be London. I’m proper working class and I prefer proper northern towns with proper people,” said Big Lou.

“I’m looking forward to coming back to Carlisle. The night will be a laugh.”

Nick Turner, director of Carlisle-based Intro PR which organises the LA23NET events, said: “Our networking evenings are always a little bit different and a comedy night really is the polar opposite of what you might expect from a business event.

“I have seen some of Big Lou’s comedy nights before so I can guarantee this will be a fun night.”

A Barrel of Laughs kicks off at 6.30pm on Thursday November 21 at West Walls Brewing Co Brewery and Tap Room, West Walls, Carlisle.

Tickets are available from the LA23Net website here.
