A Workington firm has been acquired by Cumbria Waste Group.
Derwent Recycling was founded in 2006 by Kevin Farrington and is run by him and his wife Claire across two sites.
Cumbria Waste Group said the deal is part of its growth plan to strengthen its base in Cumbria and regionalise its business across the north of England.
Cumbria Waste Group is a fast-growing regional waste solutions provider, with operations across Cumbria, the North East and Lancashire for public sector and commercial customers.
Cumbria Waste Group was acquired by Waterland Private Equity in 2023 and is also supported by Kartesia.
Andy Chant, CEO of Cumbria Waste Group, said: “I have known Kevin for many years and always held in high regard the business that he and Claire have built.
“It is compliant, delivers great service and the pride taken in the assets is second to none. These are the qualities that made it attractive for us and it adds significant additional capacity to our operations in West Cumbria.
We are very excited to welcome the Derwent team to our group and gradually integrating the businesses over the coming months.”
Mr Farrington said: “I am proud to have sold the business to Cumbria Waste Group.
“Both businesses compliment each other and the synergies between them will drive operational efficiencies and facilitate a wider service offering to our valued customers throughout Cumbria.
“We have taken great pride in the business, facilities and the team that we have built and we are really excited to see how the business develops in the future under Cumbria Waste Group.
“I would like to thank all our customers and friends for their support over the years and I wish Andy and his team all the very best for the future.”
